Krimml Waterfalls

A unique natural experience

Krimler-Wasserfaelle_copyright-fa-tatonka

With a total drop of 385 m, the Krimml Waterfalls are the highest waterfalls in Europe and a natural wonder in the middle of the Hohetauern National Park.
The origin of the Krimmler waterfalls is the Krimmler Ache. It begins at the end of the Krimmler Achental, flows through gentle alpine pastures first, and then rushes down the three massive drop steps as a thundering glacier stream.

The 4km-long Krimmler Waterfallway has been constructed with numerous lookouts, so visitors can see the falls up close in safe terrain.

In 10 minutes walk from the parking lot is the lowest Achenfall with a drop height of more than 140m.
This is followed by a short, flat section, the so-called "Schönangerl", from which the middle Achenfall crashes over the second, 100 m-high, step. The middle Achenfall can be reached in about 30 minutes and the highest Achenfall with a drop of 140m can be reached in 1 - 1.5 hour.

If you want you can after the waterfall way in the Krimmler Achtal into hiking to the Warnsdorferhütte at 2336m (walking time: 3.5 hours)
